Lake Tahoe

We started our trip to California with a quick trip to Lake Tahoe. Neither of us had ever been there and we wanted to see it for ourselves. We drove straight through on Saturday and arrived just before the sun set.

It was a rainbow kind of day on our way down and we saw several full rainbows that were gorgeous.

We also saw some weird clouds and dust storms as we were driving into Nevada.

First views of Lake Tahoe

We spent the night in California, but it was literally on the Nevada / California border. We could walk across the street to Nevada. I didn't realize that gambling was such a big deal outside Las Vegas, but driving through Reno proved that it's just another gambling center with huge casinos everywhere. And all around Lake Tahoe on the Nevada side we drove by casino after casino (and quite a few wedding chapels as well).

In the morning we drove around a bit of the lake on the California side and stopped at Emerald Bay. It was a beautiful day.

Around noon we headed toward San Francisco. On our way, we stopped at Bogle Vineyards for some wine tasting because we like their wine and hey..it's California!

We passed another wine tasting place called the Old Sugar Mill. There were several wineries in this building that offered wine tasting. We didn't do any, just walked around a bit.
