Utah Trip - Day 3

Our third day of our trip was spent in Salt Lake City, UT.  Weather wise it was the worst day of the trip, and it happened to be a Sunday so many things we wanted to see and do were not open.

We drove over to the lake but it was SO windy - crzay, blow you over windy - and it started raining. We had wanted to go to Antelope Island, but it would have been another hour of driving just to get to the bridge, plus the weather wasn't great.

As we drove around the city looking for something to do we found this Historical Museum and it was open.

Utah is home to many different dinosaur excavations and we all had fun reading about the discoveries and digs, as well as seeing the skeletons.

We also headed to the Capitol building to check it out. It was surprisingly empty, and we enjoyed walking around.

We did a drive by of Temple Square and took in the sights of the tabernacle, convention center and LDS headquarters. I had fully intended to walk around and explore this area, but as we got close and drove by it just didn't sit right with me. The temple is their highest place of worship and it didn't seem right to enter a place of worship that isn't consistent with my own faith.

I snapped this photo from the car window and love how the sky turned out...the presence of the Mormon church is crazy when you drive through Utah. From the interstate you could look out over a town and see 5-10 church steeples in one glance. Then drive another 2 miles and see another 5-10. In some instances you'd see two churches within a block of each other or even across the street from one another.
