On Saturday we went up to the University of Virginia to walk around a bit. UVA was founded and designed by Thomas Jefferson in 1819. The campus is simply beautiful and has unique architecture design. We walked through the rotunda (pictured below) and the
Academical Village, which is comprised of ten pavillions interspersed with student rooms. It was designed for students and professors to live in the same area. Each has its own classical architectural style as well as it's own walled garden.
The Rotunda was inspired by the Pantheon in Rome and symbolized knowledge.
Aaron and Darren said the tops of these columns were just redone at a cost of $100K each!
Aaron also took us to the music building to see this mural - he says it's his favorite piece of art he's ever seen and it was truly beautiful. There were many panels and it went up and around two different staircases.
Next we headed into the country to do some wine tasting at a couple different vineyards.
Great pictures Jill
