On day 3 (Sunday), we drove to the town of Bantry on Bantry Bay. After playing and singing music that names some of these towns, it was fun to go there and see the town itself. Also, a friend of ours here in OR has family that is still living in Bantry. She recently went back for a wedding and encouraged us to go there and see the town, Bantry House (where the wedding was) and eat in her family's restaurant. Unfortunately the restaurant was closed (which we discovered when we arrived).
We walked up the long drive to Bantry House to check it out. It was absolutely beautiful.
It's a very old house, now used as an inn. You could tell that they are having a very hard time keeping up with the maitenance.
There are 100 steps up a steep hill in the back of the house....appropriately called the 100 steps. They lead up to several terraces that each serve as a lookout back down to the house, gardens and bay. This area is one they are currently trying to regain control of.
The horse stables / barns were lovely to walk around.
We also walked around a bit inside, and I took a few photos before I realized inside photography wasn't allowed inside.
What a cool place
