Seattle

Kevin and I headed to Seattle for a couple days last week, and Grandma Redman stayed at our house with the girls.

We've been to Seattle so many times and weren't quite sure what to do this time. We started by visiting a winery just outside Seattle before heading to our hotel in the center of the city.

We did a lot of walking and passed this very strange looking area...glass globe-like domes. I asked the lady who was standing at the entrance what it was and she told me this is for Amazon employees and not open to the public. There was a public exhibit on the other side that told a little about this particular building and the buildings surrounding it. Amazon's headquarters are here and they are developing these city blocks (9) as a place for the majority of their employees to live and work.

We also found an "Amazon Go" store and had to try it. You have to download an app just to get it. After downloading the app we went inside and scanned it. Then you just walk around the store (mini-mart) and take whatever you want. The app that you downloaded is linked to your amazon account and whatever you take from the store is automatically charged to you. There are facial recognition cameras all over the store that are keeping track of what you take. It's cool and a little weird - it definitely feels like you are stealing!

We walked over to the Seattle Center - the area built and developed for the World's Fair. We had been to a couple of the museums there, but wanted to walk around the whole area and go into the Chihuly Garden and Glass. (I'll share those photos in a separate post).

The we walked over to the waterfront and through the SAM Olympic Sculpture park.

We also found a cool music store and there learned about an Irish music session happening later that night. We went to it and it was amazing how many musicians kept showing up and joining it. There were 5 fiddles by the time we left....we only saw 2 fiddlers our entire time in Ireland!
