Astoria

We recently headed to the northwest corner of Oregon for a night away as a family. Originally we were planning to go to Boise, ID for two nights, but the girls both had quite a bit of school work and Sydney also had work, so we opted for a closer, shorter trip.

Astoria is where the Columbia River meets the Pacific Ocean. We have been there a couple times before, but it's been several years. There isn't much to do, but it's always refreshing to get away from home and reconnect as a family.

There are several bridges in the area, but this one - the Astoria Megler bridge - is the longest continuous truss bridge in North America. It's over 4 miles long.

There is a column at the top of the hill that you can climb up.

and the view from the top is very pretty

The next morning we drove to Ft. Stevens state park to check out the ocean.

There is a shipwreck on the beach - the Peter Iredale
