Maui Ocean Center

Prior to our trip, a friend who has been to Maui suggested that I contact the Maui Ocean Center and ask about getting free family passes in exchange for a blog / social media review. I did and they gave them to us!

So on our first morning in Maui, we drove to Ma'alea Harbor to visit Hawaii's aquarium.

We learned that 25% of the fish found near the Hawaiian islands are endemic to Hawaii - meaning they are only found in these oceans.

They have an octopus and it was active while we were there. Sometimes they are just sleeping in the corners of their tank.

They also have a sea turtle exhibit. We had seen sea turtles the night before - swimming in the waters right near our resort. We were so excited because we'd never seen them in the wild before. Seeing them at the aquarium was also cool because we could see them swimming.

Another cool feature of the aquarium was the shark tunnel.

It was a small aquarium and we were the first ones there so we got through it pretty quickly. It was nice to see and learn about the sea life at the beginning of our week. If you ever find yourself in Maui, I'd say this place is worth a visit.
